I’ve always been into gaming. Since I was a kid, I would get lost in it.
Whether it was the Sega Genesis, the original PlayStation, PSP, or Gameboys, gaming was my way of exploring. It was how I discovered worlds, solved problems, and let my imagination run.
But now, there just isn’t time to spend hours on the couch enjoying a game like before.
That’s why the Steam Deck has become such a gem for me. Even with long work hours and non-stop projects, every now and then, when I need a short break just to reset, I load it up.
If you grew up with Gameboys or a PSP, you’ll understand just how special handheld gaming used to feel. The Steam Deck brings all of that back in a way I never expected.
It’s honestly insane how far we’ve come. This device is basically a portable PlayStation 4 that can run massive AAA games on the go. For anyone who understands modern gaming, that is mind-blowing. If you had told 13-year-old me this would exist one day, I wouldn’t have believed it.
What makes the Steam Deck even better is how refined and user-friendly it is. It feels polished, almost like an Apple product. No tinkering, no hassle, just turn it on and play. It syncs straight to your Steam account and gives you access to your entire library.
One of my favourite features is how it handles sleep mode. You could be right in the middle of an intense game like Cyberpunk 2077, press pause, put the device to sleep, and then come back hours or even a day later. With one button, you’re back exactly where you left off. That still blows my mind.
I don’t get to use the Steam Deck as much as I’d like, and sometimes I imagine what younger me could have done with a device like this. But even now, when I only get a few moments here and there, maybe once a week, it helps me switch off from the chaos and just enjoy something for myself.
And honestly, that is priceless.
